Burgeo runs for Terry
For the past 36 years Ruth Tucker has organized the Terry Fox Run/Walk in Burgeo.
The community walk took place on Sept. 25 and the school run went ahead on Sept. 30.
Approximately 80 people took part and a total of $1,863 was raised. The breakdown included $244 in personal donations, $1,089 in pledges and $530 in merchandise sales.
Almost $900 of the pledges were raised by students of Burgeo Academy with a big thank you going to a few students that put such a great effort into this fundraiser, namely Tianna Lee Bradshaw who raised $204, Lexi Roach and Jenna Green who raised $100 and Carley and Avery Hann who raised $88.
At the school a goal was set to raise $500. Corey Penny and Paul Hare said the goal was too high and figured it could not be reached and both accepted a bet that Penney, a true Toronto Maple Leafs fan would wear the Montreal Canadiens jersey while Hare, a Canadiens fan would wear the Maple Leafs jersey if this goal was reached. It appears that Burgeo Academy reached their goal.
Thanks to everyone that supported this fundraiser and continues to run/walk for Terry to help find a cure for cancer.
Grade 6 students at Burgeo Academy participate in the annual Terry Fox Run.
The bet was lost by Burgeo Academy principal Corey Penney and vice-principal Paul Hare – who had to wear rival jerseys after students raised over $500 for the Terry Fox Run.
