Burgeo residents asked to reduce water use
The Burgeo town council has asked residents to reduce their water use.
Council reported recently the town is using a million gallons a day across 600 households.
The town’s water tank has a capacity of 500,000 gallons.
During the winter, homeowners often use more water than at other times of year, finding it necessary to run water to prevent it from freezing in the pipes. Many homes have little soil covering water lines into their homes.
The extra use is causing problems for the town in terms of keeping treated water flowing, as well as the additional costs for chlorine and other chemicals and more maintenance to the equipment.
The town has asked homeowners to cut back on their water use and if it’s necessary to run water to keep the pipes from freezing, to keep the flow to a minimum.
