The Burgeo Fire Department has a plan to replace their old fire truck, a 1991 GMC vehicle that’s seen better days. It has a leaky tank and other defects.

Working with local organizations, the fire department has been raising funds for a replacement truck.

During the Chase the Ace Fundraiser last week, the fire department received a pleasant surprise, in the form of a $2,500 donation from the Burgeo Lioness club.

Just a week before Burgeo Lions club president Calvin Dumaresque presented Fire Chief Glenn Hann with a $1,000 donation for the new truck.

Hann noted that Scotiabank and local musicians have also helped the fundraisers, with the musicians performing on pub nights.

The old Burgeo fire truck — a 1991 GMC model with its leaks and defects — served Burgeo well, but is in need of a replacement.
