Minor hockey gears up for another season
Channel-Port aux Basques elects its first female president
The Channel- Port aux Basques Minor Hockey Association is preparing for the start of another busy hockey season.
There are some returning members in addition to the new faces joining the association this year. The new executive was chosen at their May AGM.
Krystal Blackler, who has been involved with the minor hockey for many years, was elected the association’s firstever female president.
“I feel we have voted in a great group of individuals,” she said. “Everyone seems to be on the same page and are open to change that can make the association run smoothly. Our goal this year is for all of our volunteers, executive, coaching staff, directors and parents to work together to help our players learn the game, develop skills, have fun and reach their full potential.”
The rest of the executive are: first vice president Keith Fagan, second vice president Krista Farrell, secretary Vanessa Leriche, registrar Lorna Coffin, fundraising chair Wendy Osmond, equipment manager John Collier, coach and development co-ordinator Mike Mercer, and public relations officer Krista Reid.
The divisional directors are Midget Tom Pike, Female Sara Taylor, Bantam Steve Lefrense, Peewee Junior Billiard, Atoms Trina Cook, Novice Keira Richards, and Initiation Trula Seaward.
This year’s Minor Hockey registration was held on Sept. 28 and 29, and many new players joined the association.
The season is scheduled to begin at the Bruce II Sports Complex on Oct. 9.
There will be numerous games and tournaments throughout the season, with plenty of opportunity for the public to come and enjoy some great hockey.
