Mi­nor hockey gears up for an­other sea­son

Chan­nel-Port aux Basques elects its first fe­male pres­i­dent

The Chan­nel- Port aux Basques Mi­nor Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion is pre­par­ing for the start of an­other busy hockey sea­son.

There are some re­turn­ing mem­bers in ad­di­tion to the new faces join­ing the as­so­ci­a­tion this year. The new ex­ec­u­tive was cho­sen at their May AGM.

Krystal Black­ler, who has been in­volved with the mi­nor hockey for many years, was elected the as­so­ci­a­tion’s firstever fe­male pres­i­dent.

“I feel we have voted in a great group of in­di­vid­u­als,” she said. “Ev­ery­one seems to be on the same page and are open to change that can make the as­so­ci­a­tion run smoothly. Our goal this year is for all of our vol­un­teers, ex­ec­u­tive, coach­ing staff, di­rec­tors and par­ents to work to­gether to help our play­ers learn the game, de­velop skills, have fun and reach their full po­ten­tial.”

The rest of the ex­ec­u­tive are: first vice pres­i­dent Keith Fa­gan, se­cond vice pres­i­dent Krista Far­rell, sec­re­tary Vanessa Leriche, reg­is­trar Lorna Cof­fin, fundrais­ing chair Wendy Os­mond, equip­ment man­ager John Col­lier, coach and de­vel­op­ment co-or­di­na­tor Mike Mercer, and pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer Krista Reid.

The di­vi­sional di­rec­tors are Mid­get Tom Pike, Fe­male Sara Tay­lor, Ban­tam Steve Le­frense, Pee­wee Ju­nior Bil­liard, Atoms Trina Cook, Novice Keira Richards, and Ini­ti­a­tion Trula Seaward.

This year’s Mi­nor Hockey regis­tra­tion was held on Sept. 28 and 29, and many new play­ers joined the as­so­ci­a­tion.

The sea­son is sched­uled to be­gin at the Bruce II Sports Com­plex on Oct. 9.

There will be nu­mer­ous games and tour­na­ments through­out the sea­son, with plenty of op­por­tu­nity for the pub­lic to come and en­joy some great hockey.
