Walter Ostanek wins $1M in lottery
Canada’s polka king, Walter Ostanek, won $1 million in the London Dream Lottery prize.
The 81-year-old St. Catharines musician has earned three Grammy awards and is known for accordion hits such as “Beer Barrel Polka” and “Smile Awhile Polka.”
He can now add jackpot winner to his list of achievements.
The Dream Lottery raises money for patient care, research and medical equipment at Children’s Health Foundation, London Health Sciences Foundation and St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation.
Ostanek’s grand prize ticket entitled him to take possession of a new home, but he opted to take the cash.
