Day surgeries in Grimsby won’t work

RE: HHS to pull out of St. Peter’s and McMaster (July 9)

You state that Hamilton Health Sciences has decided to reorganize? The plan calls for Hamilton patients to go to an expanded Grimsby hospital for day surgery?

This trip, my map app tells me, is 40 kilometres and 40 minutes from my home. I live in the west end. If I lived downtown the ride might be shorter in distance, but even more time consuming. Taxis charge for time and distance. The trip to Grimsby is beyond any taxi ride that I or most Hamilton residents could afford.

Is HHS planning a shuttle service, running every 20 or 39 minutes, to get us to and from our day surgery? Please note that the shuttle service should have ample and affordable parking at the pickup points in Hamilton. It should be a service, at minimal cost, subsidized if necessary.

HHS planners, please keep us informed! Marianne Vespry, Hamilton
