Celebrate HMCS Haida’s 73rd birthday Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Discover what life was like for a sailor. Take part in fun-filled activities for all ages. Meet our costumed interprete­rs dressed in the rig of the day and hear about life on board Haida. It’s tradition

The 61st annual East Hamilton Decoration Day Memorial Service is Sunday at 1 p.m. The outdoor event takes place at Eastlawn Cemetery, 2280 Barton St. E. A Canadian tradition that began in Hamilton as a way to mark the sacrifice of Canadian Militia members killed in the Battle of Ridgeway during the Fenian Raids of 1866. In memory of those Hamiltonia­ns who lost their lives, all veterans’ graves in the cemetery will be decorated as a sign of respect for their sacrifice. hamilton.ca/events

Walk and roll

The Ability Walk and Roll is Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hamilton City Hall. Tickets are $10 for pizza, pop and T-shirt. The event includes an awareness walk and roll for people with disabiliti­es, guest speakers, art, entertainm­ent and lunch. 905-312-0162

Pier 4 Park Beach and Valens Conservati­on Area Beach are closed as tested Aug. 24. Bayfront Beach is closed for the 2016 swimming season due to a history of high levels of bacteria and/or toxins.
