Win­ter­fest kicks

Hamil­ton’s Win­ter­fest Kick­off event is for young and old Satur­day from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pier 8. Ex­pe­ri­ence an af­ter­noon of mu­sic, per­for­mances and hands on ac­tiv­i­ties for the fam­ily at the water­front, 47 Dis­cov­ery Dr. Non-per­ish­able food or cash do­na­tions will be col­lected for the Wel­come Inn Com­mu­nity Cen­tre food bank.

Gage Park

Friends of Gage Park are host­ing a wagon ride and a bar­be­cue on Satur­day from 1 to 3 p.m. This Hamil­ton Win­ter­fest event is at the park, 1972 Main St. W., next to the green­house.

Stair climb

The Lung As­so­ci­a­tion, in part­ner­ship with the Hamil­ton Pro­fes­sional Firefighters Char­ity, is host­ing this fam­ily-friendly stair climb for lung re­search. Civil­ians and first re­spon­ders (many in full gear) will be tack­ling 533 steps in this fun event. Step to it on Satur­day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stelco Tower, 100 King St. W.

Open house

Hamil­ton Down­town Mosque is host­ing an open house Satur­day from 5 to 8 p.m. in an ef­fort to bring the com­mu­nity to­gether af­ter last week’s shoot­ing in Que­bec City.

Gour­ley Park

This Hamil­ton Moun­tain park gets into the spirit with their 35th an­nual Win­ter­fest in the Park event. Join the fun Sun­day from noon to 2 p.m. Wagon rides, log saw­ing, nail driv­ing, a Story Walk and other win­ter re­lated ac­tiv­i­ties are planned. Gour­ley Park is lo­cated at 142 Dun­cairn Cres.

Queen’s Sap­phire Ju­bilee

Cel­e­brate the Queen’s Sap­phire Ju­bilee at Hamil­ton Pub­lic Li­brary’s cen­tral branch down­town, on Sun­day and Mon­day. Through the sup­port of com­mu­nity part­ners, the city’s li­brary sys­tem has the op­por­tu­nity to dis­play a rare col­lec­tion of Royal Fam­ily por­traits, pho­to­graphs and other com­mem­o­ra­tive items, in­clud­ing a Royal Stan­dard that flew over Buck­ing­ham Palace. On Feb. 6, she will make his­tory by be­ing the first Bri­tish monarch to reign for 65 years. The Royal Mem­o­ra­bilia Ex­hibit is Sun­day from 1 to 5 p.m. and Mon­day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cen­tral Li­brary branch, 55 York Blvd., first floor, Hamil­ton Room.
