Winterfest kicks
Hamilton’s Winterfest Kickoff event is for young and old Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pier 8. Experience an afternoon of music, performances and hands on activities for the family at the waterfront, 47 Discovery Dr. Non-perishable food or cash donations will be collected for the Welcome Inn Community Centre food bank.
Gage Park
Friends of Gage Park are hosting a wagon ride and a barbecue on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. This Hamilton Winterfest event is at the park, 1972 Main St. W., next to the greenhouse.
Stair climb
The Lung Association, in partnership with the Hamilton Professional Firefighters Charity, is hosting this family-friendly stair climb for lung research. Civilians and first responders (many in full gear) will be tackling 533 steps in this fun event. Step to it on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stelco Tower, 100 King St. W.
Open house
Hamilton Downtown Mosque is hosting an open house Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. in an effort to bring the community together after last week’s shooting in Quebec City.
Gourley Park
This Hamilton Mountain park gets into the spirit with their 35th annual Winterfest in the Park event. Join the fun Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Wagon rides, log sawing, nail driving, a Story Walk and other winter related activities are planned. Gourley Park is located at 142 Duncairn Cres.
Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee
Celebrate the Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee at Hamilton Public Library’s central branch downtown, on Sunday and Monday. Through the support of community partners, the city’s library system has the opportunity to display a rare collection of Royal Family portraits, photographs and other commemorative items, including a Royal Standard that flew over Buckingham Palace. On Feb. 6, she will make history by being the first British monarch to reign for 65 years. The Royal Memorabilia Exhibit is Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Central Library branch, 55 York Blvd., first floor, Hamilton Room.
