They lie, lie and lie again

RE: Trump’s presidency

Facts. They are what they are. Alternative facts — well, they are lies. With Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway and their ilk, we are faced with the troubling reality of dealing with people who are pathological liars. Truth, facts, these have no place in their universe. Instead, they lie. Easily, like a reflex. And if they are caught in a lie, they just tell another lie, ad infinitum. Trying to engage with them becomes a shell game, and makes you think your head is going to explode. And wonder if you are the mad one. While they just smile, or sneer, and tell another lie.

When people like this are placed in positions of power, everyone in their sphere suffers. They are usually bullies, which helps them operate in their twisted universe. Don’t dare challenge them. If you’ve ever worked with someone like this, you know how toxic, deflating, depressing and surreal an environment is created in the workplace. When people like this are running the most powerful country in the world, it’s going to be terrifying. And we will all suffer, American or not. Ken Durkacz, Hamilton
