HAPPY AND GLORIOUS — THE QUEEN MARKS 65 YEARS ON THE THRONE
The Queen came to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952, with the death of her father George VI. The Central library marked the Sapphire Jubilee Sunday and Monday with a special royal exhibit featuring Royal Family portraits, photographs, a 1938 Christmas card and a Royal Standard that flew over Buckingham Palace. The items came from collectors. Right, visitors look at a pair of coronation stools. Bottom left, portraits of the king and Queen Elizabeth, who later became the Queen Mother. Bottom right, a portrait of the Queen Mother when she was a young monarch.
