Woman seriously hurt in QEW crash

The Hamilton Spectator - - LOCAL -

A 37-year-old Hamilton woman is in hospital in life-threatening condition after a two-vehicle collision on the westbound QEW near Brant Street Monday afternoon.

The crash — between a Toyota Corolla and a commercial vehicle — took place around 2 p.m., OPP spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said on Twitter.

“Right now it appears that this cube van may have actually been disabled or slowing down because of an issue on the highway and coming to rest … between the 403 and QEW,” right before the crash happened, Schmidt said.

The westbound lanes of the QEW were closed at Guelph Line, which is where traffic was being diverted off the highway.

The highway was expected to reopen around 6:30 p.m.

The woman was trapped in her vehicle, Schmidt said.

She was going to be airlifted to hospital but ended up being transported by ground ambulance, he added.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Burlington OPP detachment at 905 681-2511.
