Trudeau and government must act now

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION - RE: Ottawa’s inaction on indigenous children

The Government of Canada must make good on its commitment to honour the January 2016 ruling by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal which found ongoing racial discrimination resulting in inequitable funding for First Nations children. Doing so is not simply the right thing to do; it is legally required.

Additionally, with rising rates of teen suicides within Indigenous communities, there is an urgent need for a national suicide strategy and it is vital that preventive and crisis services are accessible. If not, what does the future hold for our children and our communities? Prime Minister Trudeau, we are calling on you and your government to take action now. Joan MacKenzie, executive director, Ontario Association of Social Workers
