$35 to licence my geriatric dog

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION - RE: Dog licensing

A surprise visit recently, out here in the depths of Flamborough. A visit from a bylaw officer, following up on why we hadn’t paid our dog licence fee. Well, we have diligently paid over the course of her lifetime. Well, our beautiful old girl is 15, blind, and can barely walk. In other words, she can barely make it outside to the backyard. Oh but I forget ... we are part of Hamilton ... do remember the city is having budgetary issues. So, for a $15 fee, we had a bylaw officer come way out here, for a blind crippled dog? Oh and gas. So her visit cost the city? Of course we had to pay $35, to avoid a fine.

Oh and we get a refund should our old girl die over the next two weeks. How decent. Not impressed. Larry Baron, Flamborough
