January sees record-setting property sales in Hamilton and Burlington
January was a record-setting month for property sales in the Hamilton and Burlington area.
A total of 911 such transactions were processed through MLS last month, according to recent figures released by the Realtors Association of Hamilton-Burlington, which also covers Grimsby, Caledonia and Dunnville.
That’s 17.4 per cent higher than in January 2016 and a new high for the month.
“January’s record sales topped the previous high from 2006 by more than 11 per cent,” RAHB CEO George O’Neill said in a media release. “That’s quite remarkable for a January, when sales are typically slower.”
At the same time, the number of properties listed last month – 1,139 – decreased by 9.7 per cent compared to January 2016, and by 30 per cent compared to the 10-year average.
The real estate board said seasonally-adjusted sales of residential properties were up 4.3 per cent over the same year-over-year period, and the average sale price jumped 15.2 per cent.
