Green stepping down from rental housing subcommittee

Ward 3 Coun. Matthew Green says he is stepping down from the City of Hamilton’s rental housing subcommittee.

Green announced his decision, which he said is effective immediately, in an email Tuesday morning.

The move stems from the fact Green’s commercial property has two units that could be rented out in the future. This could present a conflict under the Municipal Act, he said in his email.

Green said he was made aware of the potential issue by Ward 4 Coun. Sam Merulla.

“I have made the decision to declare my interest in order to prevent an (sic) conflict or even a public perception of a conflict of interest and step down from the committee effective immediately,” he wrote.
