Never the Guy

The Hamilton Spectator - - OUR PULSE -

I am not the warm summer’s eve, nor the majestic winter snowfall.

I am a cool Autumn day, or a rainy spring morning.

I might be a lustrous ruby, but everyone wants the perfect diamond.

I am the apple with too many bruises. I am still good, but not good enough.

Wednesday afternoon, not dreaded, not adored. A small joy, but not anyone’s favourite.

I am the tiny town that you stop at on your way to the big city. Always middling through life. Smart, but not the smartest. Athletic, but not the jock. Always a guy…

Never the guy.
