Post-mortems scheduled to identify two victims of early-morning Eastport Drive crash
Post-mortem examinations are expected to be completed Thursday to help identify two people killed in a crash on Eastport Drive early Tuesday morning.
Police are working to notify who they believe are family members of the people killed in the collision, said OPP spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
“From our investigation, we think they know who they are because we have two people that aren’t accounted for,” Schmidt said. “Now it’s just a matter of confirming it through the coroner.”
The crash took place just before 6 a.m. Tuesday near Beach Boulevard. It’s believed the vehicle — a Lexus sedan — rolled over and hit the guardrail before catching fire.
Reports from witnesses indicate the vehicle may have been travelling at approximately three times the speed limit, Schmidt said. The speed limit in that stretch is 50 km/h.
Schmidt said roads were dry at the time of the crash.
