Floor­ing con­trac­tor fac­ing fraud, theft charges

Hamilton po­lice have ar­rested a con­trac­tor they al­lege stole cheques from homes where he was hired to do work.

Po­lice were con­tacted Dec. 15 af­ter a home­owner who al­legedly found the con­trac­tor on­line and hired him to in­stall hard­wood floor­ing, claimed blank cheques were stolen, forged and used.

Fraud in­ves­ti­ga­tors then found a sec­ond al­leged vic­tim — an­other home­owner with a sim­i­lar story.

On Wed­nes­day, po­lice ar­rested Den­nis Ro­driguez, 27, of Kitch­ener.

He is fac­ing mul­ti­ple charges of theft un­der $5,000, pos­ses­sion un­der $5,000, us­ing a forged doc­u­ment and fraud un­der $5,000.

Ro­driguez is the owner-op­er­a­tor of South­ern Floor­ing and De’South Floor­ing, po­lice said. Po­lice be­lieve there may be more vic­tims. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion is asked to con­tact Det. Scott Moore at 905-546-4521.
