Flooring contractor facing fraud, theft charges
Hamilton police have arrested a contractor they allege stole cheques from homes where he was hired to do work.
Police were contacted Dec. 15 after a homeowner who allegedly found the contractor online and hired him to install hardwood flooring, claimed blank cheques were stolen, forged and used.
Fraud investigators then found a second alleged victim — another homeowner with a similar story.
On Wednesday, police arrested Dennis Rodriguez, 27, of Kitchener.
He is facing multiple charges of theft under $5,000, possession under $5,000, using a forged document and fraud under $5,000.
Rodriguez is the owner-operator of Southern Flooring and De’South Flooring, police said. Police believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Scott Moore at 905-546-4521.
