Why are we making things worse?

RE: NEB Approves Enbridge Line 10 Project (Jan. 27)

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

How discouraging to read about the NEB decision to proceed with Line 10 through the City of Hamilton. It seems clear that citizens were not consulted about impacts on waters, farmland and wildlife. The NEB did impose 46 conditions but Enbridge does not have a good track record for managing pipelines.

Will the City monitor and insist that the 46 conditions are met? Will the City challenge the NEB decision that allows Enbridge to leave the old pipes in the ground?

These are concerns, but the fundamental question relates to human survival. Why are we accepting increased transport of fossil fuels, when we say we have committed to reducing emissions and to fighting human habitat destruction (climate change)? Why are we going along with making things worse? Rose Janson, Hamilton
