Young man badly beaten and left un­con­scious near Hess Vil­lage

Po­lice are ask­ing for wit­nesses to come for­ward af­ter a man was badly in­jured in a street fight near Hess Vil­lage early Satur­day morn­ing.

The man, 22, was found un­con­scious and with in­juries to his face af­ter po­lice say an ar­gu­ment es­ca­lated into a fight just out­side the night­club district just be­fore 2 a.m.

He was rushed from Main Street West and Queen Street South to hos­pi­tal, where he was later re­ported to be in sta­ble con­di­tion and is ex­pected to re­cover, po­lice said.

The two-man fight ended with one fighter on the ground and the other walk­ing away.

But then a group of men ap­proached and as­saulted the man on the ground, “caus­ing se­ri­ous in­juries and ren­der­ing him un­con­scious,” po­lice said.

Po­lice are ask­ing any­one who wit­nessed the as­sault or any­one with in­for­ma­tion about it to con­tact them.

The Hess Vil­lage area has been a hot spot for crime, in­clud­ing rob­beries and as­saults. Paid-duty po­lice of­fi­cers are reg­u­larly there pro­vid­ing ex­tra sup­port for bars.
