Three young teens ar­rested af­ter ‘punk off’ rob­bery at mall

Three teenage boys who al­legedly stole gold chains from three other boys were ar­rested Fri­day af­ter a foot chase with po­lice and se­cu­rity guards in Maple­view Mall.

The sus­pects, who are 13, 14 and 15, can­not be named un­der the Young Crim­i­nal Jus­tice Act.

Hal­ton Re­gional Po­lice called the rob­bery a “punk off” — which is when youth cor­ner vic­tims and rob them us­ing in­tim­i­da­tion or threats of vi­o­lence.

Just be­fore 7:30 p.m. the three teens fol­lowed three other boys into the Ap­ple Store in the mall and then into Sears, where the vic­tims were or­dered to hand over chains they wore.

One of the sus­pects al­legedly “put his hand in front of his waist­band caus­ing the vic­tims to be­lieve he was armed,” po­lice said.

Af­ter a brief chase, the sus­pects were caught and charged with two counts of rob­bery. One of them was held for bail, the other two re­leased on a prom­ise to ap­pear in court.
