Police are looking for a man who held up an Upper James Street pet store Saturday around 6:30 p.m.

Police responded to a report of the robbery in progress around 6:30 p.m. at the 1550 Upper James St. store but the thief had already fled the area.

The canine unit tried searching for him but couldn’t find him.

Police said a lone man entered the Pet Value store and demanded cash while gesturing that he had some kind of weapon in his pocket. He made off with a small amount of cash. The store employee was not injured during the robbery, police noted.

The suspect is described as white, six feet tall and in his 40s. He was wearing dark clothing, including a hooded shirt.
