Cruz, Jennings re­leased

The New York Giants cleared roughly $10 mil­lion in salary cap space by re­leas­ing long­time fan favourite Vic­tor Cruz and start­ing run­ning back Rashad Jennings. The Na­tional Football League team an­nounced the moves on Mon­day af­ter the two helped the Giants get back into the play­offs for the first time since play­ing in the Su­per Bowl in 2012. Cruz, 30, joined the Giants as a free agent in ’10 and helped them win their sec­ond Su­per Bowl un­der Tom Cough­lin. A knee in­jury and a calf prob­lem caused him to miss most of the ’14 sea­son and all of the fol­low­ing sea­son. He re­turned this past sea­son but was lim­ited to 39 catches and one touch­down. Jennings joined the Giants as a free agent in ’14, af­ter four sea­sons with Jack­sonville and one with the Oak­land Raiders. In three years, he rushed for 2,095 yards and 10 TDs.
