Nyquist set for hearing

The Hamilton Spectator - - SPORTS -

After reflecting much of Monday, Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist opted out of attending an in-person hearing regarding his upcoming suspension and instead will settle for a phone interview Wednesday afternoon withthe National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety. In the first period of Sunday’s 6-3 loss to the Wild, Nyquist was engaged in a puck battle along the boards when he turned around and used the tip of his blade to spear Spurgeon in the face. Spurgeon continued to play, and Nyquist said afterward it was accidental. Video review shows Nyquist acting recklessly with his stick, and the fact he was invited to attend his hearing in person likely means his suspension begins at six games.
