Van use is much fuss about little

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

RE: Public peeved city van is taken to women’s march (Feb. 8)

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about. To my mind six City of Hamilton employees showed professional pride and savvy in networking with a hub of excellence, and bringing back some best practices to share with colleagues. And stood up for what they believed in, having the courage of conviction to put action to words of solidarity. Has anyone ever had their company send them to a conference? Most times your company pays travel and accommodation; mine does. I’m betting the cost of the van was less than a couple of flights, and a heck of a lot less comfortable! These women paid accommodation out of their own pocket, and used up precious vacation time to attend the march.

Thanks to six strong women for standing up for what you believe in, being positive role models and getting the job done. Enough of the petty small mindedness of those who complain but don’t do anything to make the world a better place! Cate Walker Hammond, Hamilton
