RE: Condo boom leaves no room for Ron Belmore (Feb. 7)
Your front page story on the plight of Ron Belmore (he was Ronny when he was at Hess Street School decades ago) describes a tragic situation which is all too common in Hamilton. The Spectator’s Code Red series surely made the point that poverty in Hamilton is a serious problem but, while it was good reading, it must not have hit home at City Hall.
It is easy to blame the well-intentioned developer for displacing Mr. Belmore from his sad home but the city, not the developer, has the responsibility to provide housing for the disadvantaged. But I guess city politicians want to be remembered for fancier projects than subsidized housing. Paul Charles, Hamilton
