Treat all immigrants the same

RE: Welcoming the world to Hamilton (Feb. 11)

Fred Eisenberger, I am also an immigrant, born in Hanover, Germany, and I agree with you in principle. Unfortunately, you need to stay away from the word “refugee” and the special treatment it seems to carry with it. No one immigrating to Canada came from a perfect life, we were all refugees of one type or another and we all became Canadians. Our demographics are getting older, we need immigrants as the birth rate drops. This is all true.

However, I am totally against any special treatment for any racial or religious group. All immigrants should be treated exactly the same as you and your parents and I and my parents were. Problem solved — simple. Herb Pelz, Hamilton
