Police looking for man who assaulted sex worker

The Hamilton Spectator - - LOCAL -

Hamilton police are looking for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a sex trade worker Sunday.

Police say a man approached a woman standing alone on Barton Street near Birch Avenue while working in the sex trade around 9:30 p.m.

When the two walked to a secluded area a few blocks away, the woman was physically attacked and sexually assaulted by the man, according to police.

“The Hamilton Police Service believes it’s important to let the community know about this incident should the suspect be intentionally targeting individuals working within the sex trade,” police said in a media release.

Police described the man as in his late 20s or early 30s with a “dark complexion.”

He is said to be between five-foot-six and five-foot-seven with a heavy build, short black hair and black scruffy facial hair.

The man was wearing a grey or black hooded sweatshirt and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Candace Culp of the sexual assault unit at 905-540-5545 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2228477.
