MATH ON YOUR cellphone?
It might typically be limited to online banking or adding up the damage of your grocery bill, but a Hamilton-based startup has developed a tool designed to help boost kids’ numeracy skills and improve EQAO results on smartphones, tablets, desktops or SmartBoards.
The idea stemmed from what Mirella Tehrani, a high school math teacher, was seeing in the classroom when it came to students’ comfort level around mathematics and access to technology in today’s environment.
Called EQAO Quizzer, the online tool offers students a way to boost their confidence when it comes to their math skills as they prepare for provincial testing in grades 3, 6 and 9.
“As a parent, you want your child to do well,” said co-founder Cyrus Tehrani. “Math can sometimes be a source of anxiety.”
Launched in January 2016 by the husband-wife team, the tool is available for purchase by teachers, schools or boards and gives kids a chance to enhance their skills remotely, which could mean at home or on the way to hockey.
