Hamil­ton po­lice spokesper­son dies of can­cer

Cather­ine Martin, long­time spokesper­son for the Hamil­ton Po­lice Ser­vice, has died.

Martin, 52, died “peace­fully at home sur­rounded by her fam­ily” on Tues­day, fol­low­ing a “hard­fought, 12-year battle with breast can­cer,” ac­cord­ing to her obit­u­ary.

She was the cor­po­rate com- mu­ni­ca­tor for the po­lice for the last 12 years and pre­vi­ously worked in pub­lic re­la­tions for St. Joseph’s Hos­pi­tal, the Re­al­tors As­so­ci­a­tion of Hamil­ton and Burling­ton and the Hamil­ton Con­ser­va­tion Au­thor­ity.

“Mem­bers of the Hamil­ton Po­lice Ser­vice are griev­ing the loss of our friend and col­league Cather­ine Martin,” said spokesper­son Const. Steve Wel­ton.

Martin leaves be­hind her hus­band, two chil­dren, par­ents, sib­lings and ex­tended fam­ily.

Vis­i­ta­tion is sched­uled for L.G. Wal­lace Fu­neral Home, 151 Ot­tawa St. N., on Fri­day, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The fu­neral ser­vice will be at Delta United Church on Satur­day at 2 p.m.
