Stoney Creek tan­ning sa­lon em­ploy­ees rec­og­nize man from pre­vi­ous holdups

A Stoney Creek man is fac­ing charges in con­nec­tion with sev­eral rob­beries over the past month.

Most re­cently, the man in his 30s al­legedly tried to rob Sol’ ex­ot­ica Tan­ning Spa at 952 Queen­ston Rd. on Feb. 15 around 5:30 p.m., po­lice said.

Em­ploy­ees rec­og­nized the man from ear­lier rob­beries and locked the door as he ap­proached, po­lice said. The man, who was wear­ing dark cloth­ing and had his face cov­ered, tried to open the door but could not.

De­tec­tives stopped the man and dis­cov­ered he had a knife among other items, which were used in some pre­vi­ous rob­beries, po­lice al­lege. Po­lice noted other rob­beries: Gino’s Pizza, at 697 Queen­ston Rd. on Jan. 29: the man didn’t get any cash be­fore run­ning away from the store;

Sol’ ex­ot­ica, at 952 Queen­ston Rd., on Feb. 4 and Feb. 7: the man made off with a small amount of money;

Queenslake Phar­macy, 910 Queen­ston Rd., on Feb. 9: the man tried to rob the phar­macy but ran away empty-handed;

Avon­dale Con­ve­nience, 205 Quigley Rd., on Feb. 9: the man stole an undis­closed amount of cash, po­lice al­lege.

Am­brose Stoppa is charged with six counts of rob­bery, six counts of dis­guise with in­tent, and at­tempted rob­bery.
