Ticats to instruct at camp for linemen
The middle of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ offensive line will be right up front during the 2017 Play Action Up-Front Lineman Camp.
The camp is in its 11th year but is partnered for the first time this year with the Ticats through the team’s Play Action partnership program with local minor football organizations. It will be held at Tim Hortons Field Saturday, May 20, from noon until 5 p.m.
Jason Riley, who spent 11 years on CFL offensive lines — 10 of those with the Ticats, including the 1986 Grey Cup season — hosts the camp and among the instructors are current centre Mike Filer and guards Ryan Bomben and Landon Rice.
Also helping instruct are Tiger-cats defensive line coach Dennis McPhee, former offensive line coach and current radio analyst John Salavantis, Hall of Famer Miles Gorrell, and other former players such as John Malinosky, Branko Vincic, Dave Richardson, Bob Macdonald, Darrell Harle, Brian Hutchings and Ralph Scholz.
The camp, for players aged 13-18, focuses on offensive linemen but welcomes any player that age who wants improved blocking skills.
The cost is $40 per player and online registration is at universe.com/upfront. For further information contact Spencer Sharkey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
