Burlington is celebrating spring at its twin cities — Apeldoorn, the Netherlands and Itabashi, Japan — May 6. The Canada Netherlands Friendship Day, recognizing the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands, is 11 a.m. to noon at City Hall’s civic square. The Sakura Festival celebrates the Japanese cherry blossom at the Burlington Art Centre from 1 to 3 p.m.
Canada 150 quilt
In honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Fieldcote Quilters are creating a special commemorative quilt. Members of the community are invited to submit quilt blocks themed around “What Canada Means to Me.” The quilt will be unveiled during the Canada 150 open house on May 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit hamilton.ca/fieldcote or phone 905-648-8144.
STM Drives 4 WE
St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and Mohawk Ford are hosting the first STM Drives 4 WE Event May 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Thomas More, 1045 Upper Paradise Rd. G-class licence holders will be able to test drive Ford vehicles for a $20 donation. Donations will be given in the driver’s name to Mad 4 Maddie to help run medical services in Kenya.
