Burling­ton twins

Burling­ton is cel­e­brat­ing spring at its twin cities — Apel­doorn, the Nether­lands and Itabashi, Ja­pan — May 6. The Canada Nether­lands Friend­ship Day, rec­og­niz­ing the 72nd an­niver­sary of the lib­er­a­tion of the Nether­lands, is 11 a.m. to noon at City Hall’s civic square. The Sakura Fes­ti­val cel­e­brates the Ja­panese cherry blos­som at the Burling­ton Art Cen­tre from 1 to 3 p.m.

Canada 150 quilt

In hon­our of Canada’s 150th an­niver­sary, the Field­cote Quil­ters are cre­at­ing a spe­cial com­mem­o­ra­tive quilt. Mem­bers of the com­mu­nity are in­vited to sub­mit quilt blocks themed around “What Canada Means to Me.” The quilt will be un­veiled dur­ing the Canada 150 open house on May 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit hamil­ton.ca/field­cote or phone 905-648-8144.

STM Drives 4 WE

St. Thomas More Catholic Sec­ondary School and Mo­hawk Ford are host­ing the first STM Drives 4 WE Event May 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Thomas More, 1045 Up­per Par­adise Rd. G-class li­cence hold­ers will be able to test drive Ford ve­hi­cles for a $20 do­na­tion. Dona­tions will be given in the driver’s name to Mad 4 Mad­die to help run med­i­cal ser­vices in Kenya.
