Hurricanes’ Hayes Ontario’s top coach

The Hamilton Spectator - - SPORTS -

Hamilton Hurricanes head coach Jason Hayes has been named the Ontario Football Alliance Coach of the year. The OFA oversees amateur football in the province.

The Hurricanes won the Teddy Morris Trophy as Ontario Football Conference champions last fall for the third time in the nine years that Hayes has been head coach. It was the fifth straight year, and sixth overall, that Hayes’ Hurricanes have reached the league final.

As he enters his 10th year at the helm, the Hurricanes and the OFC have rejoined the Canadian Junior Football League and are eligible to play for the national junior title. They last played in the final in 2011, when they lost the Canadian Bowl to Saskatoon at Ivor Wynne Stadium.

Hayes has recorded the most wins of any head coach in Hurricanes history. He is a former Hurricane quarterback and, in 1993, was named the CJFL Offensive Player of the Year.
