TEAMS OF THE WEEK: BURGDORF OLD KYBURGERS AND THE HAMILTON MOLSON CANADIANS

After warming up with a couple of games against their old friends — the Hamilton Molson Canadians — the visiting Swiss Burgdorf Old Kyburgers went on to win the 36-team Weekend Tournament in Niagara Falls this past weekend.

The Hamilton team met the old-timers from Burgdorf four years ago in Switzerland and played them later in a tournament in Ravensburg, Germany.

The two teams got together in Hamilton for two games last week at the Mohawk Quad before Burgdorf moved on and won all four of their games in the 40-plus division in Niagara Falls.

The local squad even presented their own version of a Cup, presented to the Swiss team by white-gloved ambassadors Tony O’Grady and Steve Kalotinis, as a symbol of the international friendship hockey can provide.

Local Heroes celebrates the accomplishments of local amateur athletes- either individuals or teams. If you know any Local Heroes, send submissions (details plus a photo) to: localheroes@thespec.com. (The photo needs to be a large file size of more than 500kb.)
