Adopt-a-clinic

The Hamil­ton Spec­ta­tor, through the Cana­dian Blood Ser­vices Adopt-a-Clinic ini­tia­tive, has adopted a blood donor clinic to en­cour­age peo­ple to do­nate blood in the week lead­ing up to the Vic­to­ria Day long week­end. Mon­day and Wed­nes­day: 4 to 8 p.m.; Tues­day and Thurs­day: 8 a.m. to noon; Satur­day: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 35 Stone Church Rd. Sign up at blood.ca.

Rec cen­tre clo­sure

The Stoney Creek Recre­ation Cen­tre will close for ren­o­va­tions on June 13. The work — which will in­clude rou­tine main­te­nance, paint­ing and war­ranty work on the HVAC heat­ing and cool­ing con­trol sys­tem — is ex­pected to wrap up by fall. In the mean­time, res­i­dents are asked to make use of neigh­bour­ing rec cen­tres. For a full list, visit hamil­ton.ca/recre­ation.

Mac award win­ners

Three McMaster un­der­grad­u­ate stu­dents have re­ceived the pres­ti­gious Wil­son Leadership Scholar Award. In­te­grated sci­ence stu­dent Mon­ish Ah­luwalia, com­puter sci­ence stu­dent Alyssia Jovel­lanos and com­merce stu­dent Joshua Young will re­ceive $50,000 to cover two years of ed­u­ca­tion costs, and will also at­tend an “elite leadership devel­op­ment pro­gram.”
