North End home hit with gunfire for second time
Hamilton police are investigating a shooting at a house on Macaulay Street East, the second time this house has been targeted in less than a month.
“Multiple residents” were inside the North End house when the latest shooting took place shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, but no one was hurt, police said.
Staff Sgt. Mike Cunliffe called the shootings “targeted,” adding there is no threat to the general public.
“Whenever there is gunfire, the public is always concerned, but the residence in this incident was the target,” he said.
A man, only described as wearing dark clothing, was seen running away from the scene.
On April 17, the same house, near Mary Street, was shot at, information police hadn’t released until Thursday.
In that incident, Cunliffe said nobody was home and it was only reported after the fact, when residents found evidence of the shooting. Police don’t know the exact time of this shooting.
On Thursday, police, including the K-9 unit, searched the area but didn’t find the suspect. Detectives have some leads, but declined to detail them. Cunliffe said there is no indication this shooting is connected to any other shootings or violent crimes in the city recently.
Police are asking that anyone who saw anything or with video surveillance of the area to contact Det. Const. Jon Van Oene at 905546-3818, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
