High-speed col­li­sion on QEW claims wo­man’s life

BURLING­TON — A 61-year-old Hamil­ton wo­man died in hospi­tal fol­low­ing a high-speed crash on the QEW Wed­nes­day night that closed all west­bound lanes at Guelph Line for sev­eral hours.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Sch­midt said one of the ve­hi­cles in­volved was trav­el­ling “at a high rate of speed” be­fore the col­li­sion, which hap­pened around 9:30 p.m.

That ve­hi­cle rolled sev­eral times dur­ing the crash and the driver died.

The driver of the other ve­hi­cle was ques­tioned by po­lice, but re­leased un­con­di­tion­ally, Sch­midt said.

No charges are pend­ing and she was not in­jured.

Col­li­sion re­con­struc­tion in­ves­ti­ga­tors are look­ing into the cir­cum­stances of the crash.
