Hamilton police are investigating a shooting on Emerald Street South Monday night.

The victim was shot at a number of times on Emerald, near Hunter Street East, shortly after 10 p.m., police said. He was not injured.

Police called the incident “targeted.”

It’s unclear if the shooter was inside or outside a vehicle at the time of the shooting. He immediately drove off after the shooting and has not been located.

The shooting took place near St. Leonard’s halfway house. One resident, who asked not to be identified out of concern for his safety, said he heard eight to 10 gun shots.

There were shell casings all over the road and vehicles hit by gunfire, he said. He saw one man who said he was shot at run inside after the shooting. That man later left with police.

Police are asking anyone in the area who has information or security video to contact police. They’re asked to call Det. Const. David Tsuchida at 905-546-3818. To provide information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
