Gun control on the ropes in Canada

RE: Gruesome ‘targeted’ home invasion in Hamilton (May 10)

The photo of three heavily armed tactical police officers could have been taken in Baltimore, Chicago or Orlando. With this gruesome home invasion, Hamilton has experienced world-class city violence. Home invasions like this one, targeted or not, form the backbone of the NRA’s ridiculous quest to have more and more people keeping guns inside their city homes, even though those guns are several times more likely to be used in the suicide of a family member than to actually repel an armed intruder.

That the intruders in this case were armed with guns speaks to how very easy it is to get guns in Canada, even semi-automatic weapons. Gun control is on the ropes here in Canada, and the feds are too distracted or too gutless to revive it. Until they do, stories like this one will become more and more common, as will stories of police officers who are armed to the teeth drawing these military-style weapons, causing sure kills or grievous injury.
