Cargo ton­nage up at Port of Hamil­ton this sea­son

Cargo ton­nage is up eight per cent at the Port of Hamil­ton this spring com­pared to the same time last year.

Ac­cord­ing to data from the Cham­ber of Marine Com­merce, fin­ished steel — used in con­struc­tion and au­to­mo­tive projects — is trend­ing 21 per cent higher than at this point last sea­son. Ton­nages for other con­struc­tion­re­lated ma­te­ri­als, like ag­gre­gates, are ex­ceed­ing 2016 lev­els by more than 50 per cent. Grain ex­ports — such as On­tario-grown soy­beans and corn — are trend­ing 67 per cent higher.
