Cargo tonnage up at Port of Hamilton this season
Cargo tonnage is up eight per cent at the Port of Hamilton this spring compared to the same time last year.
According to data from the Chamber of Marine Commerce, finished steel — used in construction and automotive projects — is trending 21 per cent higher than at this point last season. Tonnages for other constructionrelated materials, like aggregates, are exceeding 2016 levels by more than 50 per cent. Grain exports — such as Ontario-grown soybeans and corn — are trending 67 per cent higher.
