HAMILTON’S DISASTER RELIEF GRANTS

-

Introduced in 2005, the program is meant to provide relief for basement flooding on compassionate grounds only, meaning the city gives you money without acknowledging liability.

The program is kick-started by a council declaration of a disaster resulting from a rainstorm. Council has to outline an eligible time frame and geographical boundary.

Only flooding costs not covered by insurance or a legal claim are eligible. Ineligible costs include replacement of items like “non-essential” furniture (think stereos) or recreational vehicles like boats.

To make a claim, call this hotline: 1-866-596-2242. The deadline is Aug. 31.
