Stelco retirees not the only victims

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

RE: Author should walk in retirees’ shoes (May 13)

Mr. Montgomery is NOT the only retiree to be affected by the steel industry. My husband worked in it for 48 years. Over those years he lost his job three times through no fault of his own.

One company declared bankruptcy and he lost $29,000 owing to him. Job losses took what savings we had and three times we had to start back out of a deep hole. He is 67 now and still working part time.

I truly feel sorry for the Stelco pensioners, but Mr. Montgomery and the others should realize that it just isn’t them that this is happening to. Yes our lives were irreparably changed (damaged) and we had NO ONE to fight for us.

Sixty per cent is better than nothing. Just sayin’! Linda C Arnold, Stoney Creek
