No more nice Canadians

RE: Gun controls on the ropes in Canada (May 12)

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

After reading this letter, I have to agree about gun control in Canada. For a country that isn’t supposed to be like our southern “gun toting” neighbours, the live action shootings that we have heard about in Hamilton lately seem to quickly dispel that myth. With the police on the hunt for all the criminals involved, who is left to deal with those who break the few gun laws that we have left in Canada? As I see it, that leaves the justice system.

When these criminals appear in court and are found guilty, we must demand judges can impose the harshest sentences possible for any gun crime. Sentencing has to deter these criminals from thinking twice about ever using a firearm if and when they get involved in a crime. Being nice Canadians no longer works.
