Apartment owner fined for fire code violation
The owner of an apartment building on Bay Street South has been fined $1,500 for violating the Ontario Fire Code.
Bay South Properties Ltd., owner of the 11-storey apartment building at 172 Bay St. S., pleaded guilty in provincial offences court on May 16 for not maintaining the building’s emergency power supply.
If a building loses power, the emergency power supply is supposed to provide enough lighting in the common area to allow residents to safely get out and provide backup to other systems. “This is especially important in this building because of the number of stories,” the fire department said in a news release.
