Community Living saved my sanity

Kids and adults with special needs deserve better (May 15)

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

Community Living Hamilton helped save my sanity! I am one of the parents who relied on their respite programs to help me get the breaks that kept me going.

My daughter Jessie attended Charlton House when she was about two years old. I worried that people would think I was a bad mom, but boy did I enjoy those nights that I could sleep knowing that she was well taken care of.

Then Community Living realized that these “kids” were growing up and another solution was needed.

So they opened Templemead for the over 18-year-olds. They also had Dragonfly, an away camp and helped with special services at home.

Community Living has always looked for solutions to problems, and I thank them for the years of help Jessie and I received. So I urge Hamilton to support these people as they are truly “special”. Susan (Powell) Watson, Dundas
