Two dogs die in downtown blaze
Two dogs died and one person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a downtown building Friday afternoon.
A man was inside the three-storey residence at Cannon Street West and Park Street North when the fire started around 2 p.m.
He was treated for minor smoke inhalation, said fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci.
Five other people who were inside the building made it out safely, Mostacci said.
The fire caused about $300,000 in damage, he said.
The city’s building department was called in to investigate the structural integrity of the brick home, which had extensive damage on the second and third floors. A neighbouring home to the south sustained minor damage.
The cause was still under investigation Friday evening.
The Red Cross was called to help residents of 120 Park St. N. find alternate accomodation, Mostacci said.
