Cyclist in stable condition after collision with bus
A cyclist who collided with a city bus downtown Thursday is now listed in serious but stable condition in hospital.
The 68-year-old man had suffered a serious head trauma.
He was cycling north on Bay Street South approaching the intersection of Main Street East at about 4:20 p.m. At the same time, an HSR bus was going east on Main Street East through the intersection and had the right of way.
In a news release, police say the cyclist entered the intersection and struck the back half of the accordion-style bus and was thrown from his bicycle.
The crash happened in front of the workers’ memorial monument at the northwest corner of the City Hall block. Several witnesses, including the bus driver, attended to the cyclist.
Speed or alcohol are not factors in this collision, police say.
As of Friday afternoon, the police’s collision reconstruction unit was still investigating the collision.
Any witnesses who have not spoken to police are asked to call Det. Const. Niblock at 905-546-4753.
