RE: Random Acts of Kindness

Parkview Church is home to Compassion Ministries; a registered, nonprofit community outreach centre, caring for the community for the past 12 years. We do not receive any government funding or money from other agencies and we do not have any paid employees.

Compassion Ministries collects donated goods, stores them in our facility at 1136 West 5th St., and distributes them, at no charge, to those in need. We serve approximately 500 people every week, those who are homeless, living at or below the poverty line, refugees, and many others. We also liaison with Neighbour-to-Neighbour and other agencies in the GHA.

Several weeks ago, on a rainy, windy Monday morning when the volunteers opened the Compassion Ministry house it wasn’t the sky that was falling, but the ceiling. Since we lacked the funds to repair the roof, we reached out to local businesses. AMA Roofing and Supplies donated the shingles and Gerry’s Roofing and Siding put them on at no charge. We would like to thank Monique Laberto at AMA and Gerry St. Germain at Gerry’s Roofing and their employees for their generous donations of materials and labour and their support. They co-ordinated the logistics to get the job done and they did a great job. Susan Woodrow, volunteer, Compassion Ministry, Community Liaison Committee
