138 tick­ets in Burling­ton traf­fic blitz

BURLING­TON — Halton po­lice say they is­sued 138 tick­ets, charged two driv­ers with im­paired and im­pounded two ve­hi­cles as part of a traf­fic en­force­ment project in Burling­ton.

Project Safe Com­mute was in re­sponse to com­mu­nity com­plaints about ag­gres­sive driv­ing dur­ing the morn­ing and af­ter­noon com­mutes, po­lice said.

The third phase of the project took place Tues­day in Burling­ton, with of­fi­cers ded­i­cat­ing a com­bined 98 hours in 15 high-traf­fic ar­eas in the city.

The tick­ets in­cluded of­fences rang­ing from dis­tracted driv­ing to speed­ing, with more than one driver stopped go­ing more than 40 kilo­me­tres over the limit. Po­lice also is­sued 28 warn­ings.
